Connecticut Telso Golf League: Short Game Clinic

Yesterday, Head Professional Jason Beffert and golf staff assistant, Dan Valk, hosted a short game clinic for the Connecticut Telso Golf League. 50 league members, friends, and family attended the clinic and received tips focusing on the improvement of their short game. Both Jason and Dan presented helpful information and demonstrations to the crowd on chipping, pitching, putting, and how to approach a bunker shot. At the end of the hour long clinic, guests were welcome to use the practice facilities and receive some one-on-one attention from Jason and Dan.

The next CT Telso clinic is expected to take place in June and will focus on driving techniques.

Two Ball Best Ball

The fog didn't slow down the competition this week in the Two Ball Best Ball tournament this weekend. It was another hotly contested race as we saw a 4 way tie for 1st place with a score of 66. It was lights out for these teams even though the fog held off the sun for most of the morning. The four teams who tied were Jim Heckman and Paul Piantek, Whit Hawkes and Ray Hussong, Mark Jannacone and John Esposito, and finally Martin Smith and Geoff Deville.

The teams of John Lapan and Brian Bajek and Lary Ahearn and Gene Early both shot 67 to tie for second place. The Men's Club is off to a strong start and the competition for the top ten is getting fierce.

The next Men's Club event is a skin's game Saturday May 23. This will be the first tournament that will be on the entire Jones course.

Swing Into Spring Clinic

Today was our first "Swing Into Spring" golf clinic for women. 31 ladies attended the clinic where they enjoyed lunch, learned from Maureen Melleky, a registered Physical Therapist, and finally, dodged the rain outside getting tips on the full swing, putting, and chipping. The ladies were treated to a fascinating presentation by Maureen who is a certified Body Balance For Performance Specialist. She ran the group through a series of strength and flexibility tests showing how the body is supposed to be used in the golf swing.

The rain held off just long enough for everyone to get out to the Lyman Orchards Practice Facilities and get a few tips from our Pro's. They were treated to full swing tips from Dick Bierkan, chipping tips from Dave Christenson, and putting tips from Jason Beffert. The pro's were very impressed by the improvement throughout the day.

The next Ladies event will be at Lyman Orchards Golf Club on June 18. There will be a free clinic at 7:30 am for all ladies signed up for golf. The golf event will start at 8:30. If you would like to play but still may not feel ready to play the golf course, come to Lyman Orchards on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:30 to learn the etiquette in a non-intimidating environment.

Nassau Tournament

Today's Nassau Tournament was once again a hotly contested match. The format for the event saw winners for low front 9, low back 9, and low total in both gross and net divisions. Ron Gitlin and Pete Philipse fired 68 to tie for low total in the net division. Brian Bajek shot a 33 to take top honors for low front 9 and Dave McClellan shot a smooth 31 to win low back 9.

The gross division was hotly contested once again with John Pesavento taking top honors with a low total of 80. There was a tie for low front 9 between Ken Stella and Jack Maloney at 39, and low back 9 honors went to Masaharu Osada with a 40.

We will not have a tournament next weekend due to Mother's Day. The next event is a two player best ball on Saturday May 16.
